Arnoldo F. Alanis

Arnoldo F. Alanis, beloved husband, father and grandfather, born on August 26, 1949, was reclaimed by God on April 14, 2023, peacefully while surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife Dolores M. Alanis; his daughter Jessica M. Alanis and her wife Jessica Lopez-Alanis; his son Richard A. Alanis and his fiancé Alyson A. Almaguer; and his two granddaughters Jordan and Addy Alanis. His surviving siblings are Minerva Guerra, Graciela Guerra, Juan Alanis and their families. Arnoldo was preceded in death by his eldest son, Arnold F. Alanis, Jr., and his parents Juan and Leonor Alanis. Arnoldo was a strong advocate for public service and safety. He graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1967. Then went on to earn a Certificate of Mortuary Science from Commonwealth College in Houston, TX. As part of his training, Arnoldo served as an apprentice at Earthman Funeral Home. He was certified as a Funeral Director and Embalmer by the Texas Funeral Service Commission in 1971 and his first job was at Crespo Funeral Home on Navigation Blvd. Having a passion for public safety, Arnoldo joined the Houston Police Department in 1972, where he served as an officer and detective for 32 years. After his retirement from HPD in April 2004, Arnoldo was presented with an opportunity to re-enter the funeral business. He stayed in the field for 18 years and ultimately served as the Funeral Director In Charge at Santana Funeral Directors. He shared his love for his work with hundreds of coworkers throughout the years, both in the police department and in the funeral business. Arnoldo was also highly respected in his religious community. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, where he volunteered regularly and attended 9am Mass on Sundays. With his charming personality, Arnoldo touched many lives through his work in the church. In 1971, he joined the Knights of Columbus Council 3077 and earned the distinction of Third Degree Knight. Additionally, Arnoldo served the Council as Grand Knight for two terms during his tenure. Arnoldo was loved by all who met him; he brought joy to all those who were around him including family, friends, coworkers, and strangers alike. Arnoldo dedicated his life to the service of others and always enjoyed making those he came in contact with smile. He was the light of our lives and we will rest easy knowing that he is free from suffering and spending eternity in peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and Arnold Jr. Services will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 2405 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. The viewing will be held Wednesday April 19, 2023 at 4:00 PM followed by the Rosary, which will begin at 7:00 PM. Arnoldo’s final mass celebration will be held Thursday April 20, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
