Eusebio "Chevo" Gil

On April 1, 2021, Eusebio Gil, Sr. passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 65 years old. Born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico on August 14, 1955, Eusebio was a gifted musician and was known as El “Maestro Eusebio “Chevo” Gil” for his giftedness in playing the bass guitar. At only age 19, Eusebio was the original bass player of Renacimiento 74, a renown Mexican Band known in all North America including Mexico. In its greatest time of musical glory, from the beginning since 1974, he recorded almost all thirty albums with the band. It was El Maestro Chevo who with his unique and magical touch gave the band its original style. This group, without his giftedness of the bass, no longer sounded the same after his departure in the mid to late 1990’s. Even though one may say or think that his greatest love and accomplishment was the music, and it was definitely one of them, El Maestro Eusebio Gil had even one greater love, his three children, Eusebio Gil, Jr., Perla Gil Rodriguez and Edward Gil. Psalm 127:3-5 says: “Children are a blessing and a gift from the Lord. Having a lot of children to take care of you in your old age is like a warrior with a lot of arrows. The more you have, the better off you will be, because they will protect you when your enemies attack with arguments.” In the last recent days before his death, chronic pain and fatigue left him weak but also filled him with faith and brought him even closer to God, the closest we had ever seen him before. He would assure the family not to worry of him passing for he had the blessed assurance of where his home would be after leaving this place called earth. We, his children, are humbled and honored to have called him dad. We hold the privilege to carry his name and even his features, but above all we have the certainty that we will see him again one day, as we now share the same promise, that those who believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God have been given the right to sonship and the right to inherit the Kingdom of God for all eternity. Tenía 65 años. Nacido en Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México el 14 de agosto del 1955 y era un músico talentoso. El fue conocido como El “Maestro Eusebio “Chevo” Gil” por su talento en tocar el bajo. Con solo 19 años, Eusebio era el bajista original de Renacimiento 74, una banda mexicana de renombre conocida en toda América del Norte, incluido México. En su mayor momento de gloria musical, desde el principio desde 1974, grabó casi los treinta discos con la banda. Fue El Maestro Chevo quien con su toque único y mágico le dio a la banda su estilo original. Este grupo, sin su talento del bajo, ya no sonaba igual después de su partida a mediados o finales de los noventa. Aunque se pueda decir o pensar que su mayor amor y logro fue la música, y definitivamente fue uno de ellos, El Maestro Eusebio Gil tuvo un amor aún mayor, sus tres hijos, Eusebio Gil, Jr., Perla Gil Rodríguez y Edward Gil. El Salmo 127: 3-5 dice: “Un don del Señor son los hijos, Y recompensa es el fruto del vientre. 4 Como flechas en la mano del guerrero, Así son los hijos tenidos en la juventud. 5 Bienaventurado el hombre que de ellos tiene llena su aljaba; No será avergonzado Cuando hable con sus enemigos en la puerta". En los últimos días antes de su muerte, el dolor crónico y la fatiga lo dejaron débil pero también lo llenaron de fe y lo acercaron aún más a Dios, lo más cerca que lo habíamos visto antes. El le aseguro a la familia que no se preocuparan de que él muriera, porque tenía la bendita seguridad de dónde estaría su hogar después de dejar este lugar llamado tierra. Nosotros, sus hijos, nos sentimos humildes y honrados de haberlo llamado papá. Tenemos el privilegio de llevar su nombre e incluso sus facciones, pero sobre todo tenemos la certeza de que algún día lo volveremos a ver, ya que ahora compartimos la misma promesa, que aquellos que creen en Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios, se les ha dado el derecho parentesco y el derecho a heredar el Reino de Dios por toda la eternidad.
