Filiberto “Fili” Lopez, 37, of Houston, Texas, passed away Tuesday evening, June 15, 2021, due to complications caused by the COVID virus. Fili was the youngest son born to Filiberto and Guillermina Lopez on June 27, 1983, and is survived by his wife of seven years, Sara and their 4-year old daughter, Fili’s Tesoro, Elena Lopez. He also leaves behind his siblings, Brenda (Leopoldo) Martinez, Juan (Nancy), and Jorge (Rosa) Lopez, all from Houston, Texas. Fili is preceded in death by his mother, Guillermina, and his brother, Jose Antonio Lopez. Fili was employed by the Seattle based Modumetal Inc., a company which specializes in reinforcing metal using nanotechnology. Fili was the first to hold the newly created position as Quality Control Specialist for the Houston unit, where according to a co-worker’s perspective, Fili helped to set the bar and maintain the company’s high standard of excellence. The consensus among his fellow workers is that Fili was a beloved, soft-spoken individual was an easygoing, gentle, and kind person, as well as a great husband and father. Fili’s greatest love was his family, Sara and Elena. He enjoyed hosting family celebrations and creating cherished memories that will never be forgotten. One of his favorite hobbies was the collection and upkeep of knives. Fili looked forward to spending family vacations visiting mountain ranges throughout the United States. Although his life on Earth was brief, Fili has left a lasting impression on those he loved and those he knew, and he will never be forgotten. He will be dearly missed. Viewing will be Thursday, June 24, from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Templo Gethsemani at 10237 Market Street, Houston, Texas 77029. A memorial service will immediately follow visitation hours. Mask will be required, and a temperature check will be taken at the door, and spatial distancing will be observed. Burial will be on Friday, June 25 at 1:30 p.m. at The Historic Hollywood Cemetery at 3506 N. Main Street, Houston, Texas 77009. A heartfelt thank you to Memorial Hermann Northeast’s Intensive Care Unit’s nursing staff and doctors. Thank you for the care and attention given to our beloved Fili, his wife, and visiting family members. Thank you also to the employees, staff, and CEO of Modumetal Inc. for their outpouring of love to Fili’s family during this most difficult and painful time. We will be forever grateful.
