Jerry P. Cummings

On August 4, 2024, Jerry left his earthly body and went to his heavenly reward. A kind and generous man, he was the only child of Daisy M. Cummings and Curtis C. Cummings. He was born in Jonesboro, Louisiana, on July 19, 1933, and came to Houston at a very early age. His parents were small business owners and he learned at an early age to work hard as he delivered newspapers in the routes surrounding his home in the East End. He graduated from Immaculate Concepcion Catholic School and St. Thomas High School, where he excelled in academics and self-discipline, continuing his paper delivery routes all the while. He attended the University of Houston where he earned a degree in geology. He served in the United States Quartermaster Corps Army Reserves after graduation from the University of Houston, stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia. He later worked as a geologist in Colorado and Wyoming. After working in geology for several years, he returned to the University of Houston for a master’s degree in Business. He worked for more than 30 years with the Federal Government, advancing through the years and always continuing to learn about business and business leaders and earning the respect of his coworkers for whom he was a teacher and for clients who respected his unique skilled review of their enterprise. On October 25, 1975, Jerry married the love of his life, Ana C. Guerrero and together they enjoyed many years of happily married life, supporting each other in a most extraordinary way. He will be remembered for his integrity, his intellect, his analytical mind, his sense of humor and his generosity. He also had the unique ability to look far into the future based on present and past events and he was willing to share his gift to those who would hear him. He loved music from the 30’s, zydeco, and classical music. He had an eye for composition and took exquisite care in the photographs that he took. His survivors include his wife, Ana, brother in law C. Armando Guerrero and wife Tanya, his nephews and nieces, Veronica, Joshua (Alicia), Esalee, and Mia, as well as his Louisiana cousins, Alton Martin, Jr. and wife Sue, Sonny, Sue Brister, Doris (Robert) Swan, and many others. Services for Jerry will begin with a wake on Thursday, August 15, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary in Spanish at 7:00 p.m. at Santana Funeral Directors. On Friday, August 16, 2024, the Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 215 E. 10th, Houston, TX. Following the Mass, there will be an escorted procession to Forest Park Lawndale cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a gathering after the burial at All Saints Church parish hall for food and fellowship.
