Noe Garcia

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Noe Arjona Garcia, which occurred on Wednesday, November 11th. We will hold a private ceremony honoring him on Tuesday November 17th at Santana Funeral Directors located at 401 SSgt Macario Garcia Drive, Houston, TX 77011. The time will be from 1-5PM. Noe is survived by his son Noe Garcia Jr, his daughter, Irma Angelica Garcia, his grandchildren Noe Garcia III, and Maya Noemi Sepulveda. Nuestro padre nació en Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México en 1933. Su primer amor, y probablemente su relación más larga, fue con el béisbol. La mayoría de los cuentos de su adolescencia eran sobre cuando ignoraba a las muchachas para irse a jugar. Al crecer tuvo una relación problemática con su padre, nuestro abuelo era un hombre estricto y serio. El decía que su padre no era muy justo, ahora creemos que los dos simplemente eran muy parecidos. Creo que es seguro decir que nuestro padre es probablemente la persona más obstinada (terca) que nadie haya conocido. Hasta sus últimos días seguía luchando y haciendo todo lo contrario de lo que debía hacer. Tengan en cuenta que esto fue justo después de una cirugía al corazón, imaginen su fuerza y voluntad en sus años gloriosos. Our dad was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico in 1933. His first love, and probably longest relationship, was with baseball. Most if not all of the stories from his teen years revolved around our dad dissing girls to go out and play. Growing up he had a troubling relationship with his father, our grandfather was a strict and serious man that would challenge our dad. Our dad would say that he was not a just father, but we think they were just too much alike. I think it’s safe to say that our father is probably the stubbornest person anybody has ever met. Up until his last days he was still putting up a fight, and wanting to do everything opposite of what he needed to do. Mind you this was him right after heart surgery so you can just imagine what he was like in his glory days. En esos años gloriosos, todo daba vueltas alrededor de eventos sociales, clubes nocturnos y muchas mujeres. Al mudarse de México a Estados Unidos, trabajó exitosamente como soldador en refinerías de petróleo. Recuerdo alguna vez que me sentó a hablar sobre sus experiencias en Oklahoma, y no importaba lo difícil que se le presentará el trabajo, siempre impresionaba a su jefe. Se aseguró de contarnos cómo era el mejor trabajador entre todos los "gringos". Una vez que dominó el arte de la soldadura y trabajó innumerables horas extras, ahorró tanto dinero como pudo. Él ansiaba por algo más en su vida, por lo que años después se convirtió en su propio jefe al abrir 3 cantinas en el vecindario. Siempre quiso hacer más, al igual que nuestro abuelo, que también era dueño de una cantina. Tal vez mi papá quiso hacer lo mismo solo para fastidiarlo y demostrarle que él podía hacer las cosas por su cuenta. Incluso después de jubilarse y cerrar su última cantina, comenzó vendiendo autos porque nunca quiso dejar de trabajar. Él definitivamente es la persona más trabajadora que hemos conocido. The glory days, the days filled with social events, night clubs, and women. Once our dad made his transition from Mexico to the states he worked as a successful welder at oil refineries. I remember him sitting me down to talk about his experiences in Oklahoma, and no matter how hard of a job was presented to him, he always impressed his boss. He made sure to tell us how he was the best worker amongst all the ‘gringos’. Once he mastered the art of welding, and worked countless overtime hours he saved up as much money as he could, he itched for something more in his life, so years later he became his own boss by opening up 3 cantinas in the neighborhood. He always wanted to do more, just like our grandfather who was also a bar owner, my dad followed suit just to spite him and prove that he could do things on his own.. Even after retiring, and closing down his last bar he started selling cars because he never not wanted to work. Definitely the most hard working person we have ever met. Algunos de los mejores recuerdos de nuestra infancia son de mi hermano y yo corriendo por toda la casa solo para ser interrumpidos por un fuerte golpe a la pared, esta era su manera de decirnos que nos callaramos. Es posible que nuestro padre nunca haya sido el mejor esposo o compañero, y estamos seguros de que tendrá que dar algunas explicaciones si se encuentra con algunas de sus viejas conocidas en el cielo. Sin embargo, a pesar de eso, fue un gran padre. Ni una sola vez nos sentimos sin amor. Todavía puedo escuchar su fuerte risa en el fondo mientras veíamos los looney tunes los fines de semana cuando éramos niños. El día que se estrenó la película “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”, nuestro padre nos llevó a 4 cines diferentes solo para asegurarse de que tuviéramos entradas para ver la película. Se sentaba allí los fines de semana por la mañana y veía películas de Van damme, artes marciales y Arnold Swarznegger. De niños queríamos ser ninjas. Los domingos eran los mejores días, al despertar con barbacoa, tortillas recién hechas y chicharrones. Some of the best memories from our childhood are my brother and I running around upstairs only to be interrupted by a loud banging, this was his way to signal to us to shut up. Our father may never have been the best husband, or partner, I’m sure he may have some explaining to do if he runs into some of his old flames in heaven. Yet despite that, he was a great father. We never once felt unloved. I can still hear his booming laughter in the background as we would watch looney tunes on the weekends when we were kids. The day the “teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles “ movie premiered our dad drove us to 4 different theaters just to make sure we got tickets to watch the movie. He would sit there on weekend mornings, and watch Van damme, martial art, and Arnold movies. As kids we wanted to be ninjas so bad. Sundays were the best days, waking up to barbacoa, fresh tortillas, and chicharrones. A medida que crecimos, no siempre estábamos de acuerdo con nuestro padre, y nos tomó un poco de madurez comprender que todo lo que él nos hacía o decía era una manera de impulsarnos a ser mejores. Nunca dejó de creer en nosotros. Ya que nuestro padre era anticuado y nosotros siempre hacíamos lo que él quisiese, tomó bastante mal el que mi hermano decidiera inscribirse al ejército de los Marines. Recuerdo vívidamente cuando me senté con mi papá para escribir nuestra primera carta a mi hermano cuendo el se encontraba en el campo de entrenamiento, pasamos solo una línea antes de que él comenzara a llorar. Esa fue la primera vez que vi a mi papá llorar o ser vulnerable. Este momento quedará grabado para siempre en mi memoria, porque si antes siquiera cuestionara el amor de nuestro papá por nosotros, en ese momento me di cuenta que éramos su vida. As we got older, we didn't always see eye to eye with our father, and it took us some growing up to do to understand that everything he would do or say to us was a way to push us to be better. He never not believed in us. Our dad being the old school guy that he was, and us always doing what he wanted us to do, he took it quite hard when my brother decided to join the Marine corp. I vividly remember sitting down with my dad to write our first letter to my brother in boot camp, we got through one line before he started weeping. This is the first time I ever saw my dad cry, or be vulnerable. This moment will forever be ingrained in my memory, because if I even questioned our dad's love for us, this moment solidified that we were his life. Un año después decidí mudarme a Austin para asistir a la Universidad de Texas. Estaba molesto por el hecho de que quería irme, cuando según él ni siquiera sabía cómo lavar los trastes. Se aseguró de decirnos en un momento u otro que ninguno de los dos la haríamos por nuestra cuenta. Los caminos que tomamos mi hermano y yo no eran los que él quería para nosotros, pero al final lo hicimos sentir orgulloso. Supongo que se puede decir que en nuestra familia tenemos un legado de demostrar que nuestros padres estaban equivocados, pero de la mejor manera. A year later I decided to move to Austin to attend the University of Texas. He was upset at the fact that I wanted to move away, when according to him I didnt even know how to wash dishes. He made sure to tell us at one point or another that neither of us were going to make it on our own. The paths my brother and I took were not the ones he wanted for us, but in the end we made him proud. I guess you can say we have a legacy of proving our fathers wrong, but in the best way. Su legado sigue vivo a través de nosotros y sus nietos. Nuestro padre era el tipo de hombre que te daba la mano con firmeza mientras te miraba a los ojos. Sus hijos y nietos fueron su vida y el factor que lo impulsaba para no dejar de ser mejor ni de hacer más. Él deja una huella profunda y duradera en nuestros corazones. Nosotros somos los hijos de nuestro padre y esperamos seguir haciéndolo sentir orgulloso. His legacy lives on through us, and his grandchildren. Our father was the kind of man that would shake your hand with a firm grip as he looked at you in the eye. His children and grandchildren were his life, and his driving factor to never stop being better or doing more. He leaves a deep and lasting imprint in our hearts. We are our fathers children, and we only hope that we continue to make him proud.
