Oscar Martinez was born in Falfurrias, Texas on July 18, 1938 to Pedro Martinez and Celestina Pena Martinez, he peacefully passed into eternal rest on January 3, 2022 in Houston, Texas He was preceded in death by his parents Pedro and Celestina, his brothers Balde Martinez, Donato Martinez and Gilberto Martinez. He was a lifelong Texan who loved dancing to Country Music with his beloved wife of 58 years Delia, visiting with his comrades in arms at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and above all he loved his family. Oscar Martinez is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Delia Martinez. Oscar was the father of three children Hermelinda Solis and her husband Alberto, Oscar Martinez, Jr., and his wife Cecilia, Idalia Brubaker and her husband John. He is also survived by his brothers Julio Martinez and his wife Rosie, Homer Martinez and his wife Diana, Andres Martinez and his wife Anna, Benny Martinez, Jose Luis Martinez and Jose Antonio Martinez and his wife Gloria. Seven grandchildren, Alicia Dodson, Miranda Rodriguez, Theresa Solis, James Martinez, Vanessa Garcia, Julian Juarez, and Amber Juarez. Five great great-grandchildren, Sofia Rodriguez, Roque Rodriguez, Isabel Reap, Brooklyn Murphy and Julian Juarez, Jr. Funeral services have been entrusted to Santana Funeral Directors at their location at 5352 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas 77007. Please join the family in celebrating Oscar’s life on Sunday, January 16, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Oscar Martinez was a veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps for more than 10 years, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. Oscar was a veteran of the Viet Nam war, for his service he earned several medals including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Viet Nam Campaign Medal, a Navy Unit Citation, and the Viet Nam Service Medal. His experience in the Marines played a very important role in his life. He frequently pointed out that the Marines taught him the value of discipline, teamwork and investing his life in a cause larger than himself. He would often explain to loved ones how these values contributed to his success in life. Military Honors for Oscar Martinez will be presented at 3:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., Father Ben Celebrant.
