Ben B. Sullivan Jr.

After being apart for fifteen years Ben and Helen are together again at the right hand of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ben was born on January 5th,1927 in Beaumont,TX to Ben B. and Nora Inez Sullivan, Sr. Before the birth of his beloved “Sis”, Joan, his parents moved to Caldwell,TX near his Aunt Chinkie’s farm in Cooks Point where Ben spent his young years farming, dove hunting and fishing which he later recalled were the best years of his life. Graduating from Caldwell High School(1944), Ben joined the U.S. Army, serving honorably in World War II. After arriving home, he attended Sam Houston State University where he met the love of his life, Helen Ruth Cryer. They were married December 27th,1947. While working on his degree, Dun & Bradstreet recruited Ben to begin work at their Beaumont office upon graduation. Soon thereafter in 1954, Ben and Helen were blessed with their son, Ben B. (Bobby) Sullivan III. As Ben worked hard in his position at D&B, he was promoted to National Account Rep and transferred to Houston,TX. Ben and Helen then designed and built the home they would live out their lives in and enjoyed many years of good neighbors, golfing, and raising Bobby. The family began traveling by RV around the states but there was one place Ben and Helen always returned to; Gunnison, Co. Upon Ben’s retirement in 1985, after thirty-six years with D&B and receiving many presidential citations, he and Helen spent many happy summers in Gunnison with the lifelong friends they had made. Being a very close family, Ben and Helen traveled to the many places Bobby was stationed at while serving in the U.S. Navy. Father and Son loved the many opportunities they had to golf together around the world until Bobby’s death in 2005. The past few years were a tremendous blessing to Ben, affectionately known as Uncle Bubba, and his family. Getting to know this loving, generous and humble man through the stories he loved to tell, his family enjoyed watching golf and eating apple pie, playing dominoes and walking his cherished dog, Peppy, with him. Surrounded by his family, Ben died peacefully in his home with Peppy at the foot of his bed as was his wish. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him and will be held dearly in the hearts of family and friends. Ben B. Sullivan, Jr is preceded in death by his parents Ben B. and Nora Inez Sullivan, Sr; his wife Helen Ruth Sullivan; his son Ben B. (Bobby) Sullivan III; and his niece Joan Renee Matchett. Ben is survived by his sister Joan Sullivan Tindall; his nieces/nephew Lisa A. Tindall, Laurie Beth Tindall and Thomas R. Wright; grandnieces Julie Tilton & family, Trisha Plagens & family, and Sara Beth Tindall-Wright. Services will be held on Friday, January 20th, 2017 at Santana Funeral Directors (Houston Heights) 5352 Katy Freeway at Tc Jester Houston,TX 77007 Visitation: 3:00 pm Funeral Services: 4:00-5:00 pm Visitation: 5:00-7:00 pm Burial service will be held on Saturday January 21st, 2017 at Caldwell Masonic Cemetery 1411 W. 12th St. Caldwell,TX 77836 Burial Service: 1:00 pm At Ben’s request, due to his tender heart towards animals and in lieu of flowers, please send donations in Ben’s name to the Houston SPCA at www.houstonspca.org or your local animal shelter.
